“Electricity or vibration is that same energy, same power, you call God. Not that God is an electric light or an electric machine, but that vibration that is creative is of that same energy as life itself.” (2828-4) I came across the readings cited here a year ago. If I had seen them earlier, they would not have had as much of an effect on my thinking. Then I came upon a group of plasma physicists and electrical engineers who have been advancing new theories of what powers the Universe.
Let’s begin with some important background information.
A pioneering group of experimenters and scientists, beginning over a century ago, began to develop a comprehensive vision of how the cosmos came to be, its composition, and the one force that creates and sustains it. They call this vision the “Electric Universe.” Early in the 20th century, scientific views of the cosmos diverged. One line asserted the primary role of plasma, or electrically charged particles, in the nature of matter and energy. The other was dealing with a legacy of the gravitational force, first expressed mathematically by Isaac Newton in the late 1600s, and with the then-newly discovered atomic fission as a source of energy.
The history of electric science began in the 1600s in Europe, with discoveries involving earthly applications of the new “fluid” force, such as the Leyden jar, which stored static charges, and understanding that two opposite forms of electricity existed, which later became known as “positive” and “negative.” By the late 1700s, the conductivity of various materials was measured, and the electric basis of nerve impulses was discovered. In 1800, Alessandro Volta invented the first battery; in the 1830s, Michael Faraday discovered induction, built the first generator, and developed mathematical equations to describe the forces. Within a few decades, the first electric car and electric locomotive were in operation. The telegraph was developed. Thomas Edison began his experiments, and electric lamps lighted the 1881 Paris Exhibition. Then came the prolific Nikola Tesla, whose work with alternating current laid the foundation for our modern electric grid.
For therapeutic use, electric devices were developed in the mid-1700s; however, these were poorly documented and not accepted by mainstream medicine, and often consisted of high-voltage shock treatments. Low-voltage alternating currents were in use in the mid-1800s, having less harmful effects than large direct currents for muscle stimulation.
High-voltage but low-current devices were used before 1900—one was called the Oudin coil, which made use of glass tubes to apply the electric current to the patient’s body while it produced a violet glow. Nikola Tesla was involved in developing a similar device, which became the “Tesla Coil,” used mostly in the United States, while others were used in Europe. Edgar Cayce’s health readings began recommending treatments with electrical devices by 1910, but the early readings did not identify the type of device that was already being used. The Radiac® (originally “radio-active,” but not nuclear radiation) does not generate a current, but works with the body’s energies, possibly electric in nature, along with other influences. The Wet-Cell Battery also works with the “subtle energies” (the term Cayce used) of the body. Therapeutic lights, such as the Violet-Ray, or Tesla coil, have been commercially available since the 1920s, along with the ultra-violet, both electrically generated, and were recommended hundreds of times in the readings. These developments were all on the scale of practical application and inventions that benefited humanity.
American civil engineer Ralph Juergens made key contributions to the Electric Universe theories, including this landmark statement in 1972: “The known characteristics of the interplanetary medium suggest not only that the Sun and the planets are electrically charged, but that the Sun itself is the focus of a cosmic electric discharge—the probable source of all its radiant energy.” This was contrary to the still-prevailing view that the Sun, and all other stars, are powered by nuclear fusion in their cores. He later said, almost prophetically, “Without understanding its ultimate nature any more than we understand the nature of the gravitational field, we know that the electric field is potentially one of the greatest storehouses of energy in the Universe.” That storehouse, in fact, is limitless.
Cayce had made a similar statement decades earlier: “Materiality or matter demonstrates and manifests the units of positive and negative energy, or electricity, or God. Life itself is the Creative Force or God, yet its manifestations in man are electrical, or vibratory. Whatever electricity is to man, that’s what the power of God is. Man may in the material world use God-force, God-power, or electricity, to do man’s work or to destroy himself. Know then that the force in nature this is called electrical or electricity is that same force you worship as the Creative God in action!” (1299-1) And further, “As we find, all energy is electrical in its activity in a manifested form.” (735-1) The numerous physicists and engineers involved in these discoveries, then, have been developing a scientific basis for the prevalence of the Electric Force in creating and powering all stars, planets, and other celestial objects, while Cayce was providing an overriding assertion that this Force was of the Creator.
Here are some of the Electric Universe concepts from the non-profit “Thunderbolts Project,” which provides books, websites, conferences, and online videos. Immense electric currents flow through galactic plasma, powering the creation of all stars and planets, spanning billions of light-years in length, and creating vast magnetic fields. The Electric Force acts instantaneously in space and is not subject to the speed of light limitation. The Sun is a sphere of plasma, powered by those electric currents, and is electrically connected to all the planets and galaxies (and therefore will not burn out through exhaustion of nuclear fuel). Space is not a cold, empty vacuum, with isolated stars influenced only by the weak gravitational force—it is alive with creative electrical energy, connecting everything visible and invisible. Gravity itself is a manifestation of the electromagnetic force. Enormous electric currents flow between Saturn and its moons, as recently discovered by the Cassini probe. Comets are not “dirty snowballs,” but rocky bodies which eject plasma streams, not water vapor, as they approach the electric field of the Sun, creating the luminous tails (coma) we observe, as the plasma enters “glow mode.” Several moons around Saturn and Jupiter eject streams of plasma—not volcanic plumes. Most of these theories about plasma can be demonstrated in a laboratory, and they are “scalable,” meaning we can experiment with the forces that power the entire Universe.
The Electric Universe is not limited to cosmology. Conferences and literature feature the “Electricity of Life,” the mind–body connection, the survival of consciousness, its role in well-being, and bodily energies that aid healing. The Electric Universe is interdisciplinary, maintains an openness to anything that is of Life and its electrical basis, and is in harmony with Cayce’s Source. The Electric Universe theories offer a greater understanding of the philosophy that “We are all connected.” That connection, both spiritual and physical, is evident in our very substance—atoms consisting of electrically charged particles—protons and electrons.
No wonder that Cayce reminded us often that “Thoughts are things.” They have form, duration, and influence, both on the stream of consciousness and within our physical being. “…all life is electrical force, and by a vibratory force gives out and vibrates according to whatever the motive force is in the individual.” (4377-1) There is only one Creative Force in the Universe, as Cayce described: “For, all activity is of an electrical nature.” (3056-1) Decades may pass before this understanding prevails in scientific and popular belief. I hope this occurs within thirty to forty years, but given the pace of scientific discoveries from the recent Cassini probe to Saturn, the Juno probe to Jupiter, landers on asteroids, close encounters with comets, and improved telescopes, it may come sooner. Perhaps we can hope for a “Convergence” of scientific and spiritual philosophies by 2038!
Robert W. “Bob” Hutchins began studying Edgar Cayce after discovering a book in 1966, leading to decades of research. He and his wife, Davene, joined the A.R.E. and participated in study groups and conferences. His interests include Future Science and Spirituality, the Electric Universe, the Fourth Phase of Water, and Near-Death Experiences.
